Vein Care
This is not just a cosmetic issueit is a quality of life issue.
More than 25 million people in the United States suffer from symptomatic varicose veins. It is estimated that 70-75% of varicose vein patients also suffer from underlying saphenous vein reflux.
Many of these patients present to their physicians complaining of "minor" symptoms such as pain and swelling. Unfortunately, many physicians consider varicose veins to be only a cosmetic condition, prescribing conservative therapy such as compression stockings or watchful waiting. The resulting diagnosis and treatment often fail to address two key facts:
1. These symptoms are often a result of underlying saphenous vein reflux disease
2. Venous disease is progressive in nature and may worsen if left untreated
Metrolina Surgical Specialists offers comprehensive management of varicose veins. There are multiple causes of varicose veins, and treatments differ by cause and severity of symptoms. Working together, we can provide sufferers of varicose veins and underlying saphenous vein disease patient-friendly and clinically proven solutions.
Home Treatment Options
1. Maintain a healthy weight.
2. Exercise regularly to improve leg strength and circulation. Walking and running are particularly good exercises for preventing varicose veins.
3. Elevate your legs when resting to ease the pressure required for the leg veins to return the blood to the heart.
4. Wear elastic support stockings.
VNUS Closure System
At Metrolina Surgical Specialists, we are pleased to offer the VNUS Closure procedure. VNUS Closure is a clinically proven, minimally invasive, office-based procedure that treats varicose veins and their underlying cause, venous reflux. Please contact us for more information.
Results from the VNUS international, multi-center clinical registry continue to demonstrate a highly effective, stable outcome with four year follow-up. Of patients reflux-free at one year follow-up, 94.1% remain reflux-free at latest follow-up out to four years. More than 500,000 patients have been treated with the Closure procedure to date.
VenaCure EVLT Laser Treatment
This is a widely used alternative to the VNUS Closure System. It is also a minimally invasive office-based procedure for treatment of varicose veins offered by Metrolina Surgical Specialists.
Sclerotherapy
A minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment for varicose veins that involves injecting a saline type solution into the vein, causing the lining of the vein wall to swell, stick together and ultimately seal shut. Once the vein is sealed, the flow of blood is stopped. With the diseased vein sealed, blood is forced into healthier veins. Sclerotherapy is commonly used to treat small veins.
Surgical Removal
For patients who are not candidates for non-invasive procedures, we offer traditional open vascular surgical procedures.
Insurance Coverage
For many patients, these procedures are covered by their health insurance. Call or contact our office to determine if your insurance plan covers these treatments. |
